Director Cary Fukunaga No Longer With Stephen King’s ‘It’

26 May

From Deadline

67th Annual Directors Guild Of America Awards - Arrivals

Cary Fukunaga has left his gig directing New Line’s upcoming adaptation of Stephen King’s It. New Line and the True Detective director are going their separate ways owing to conflicts over budget, derived at least in part from creative differences, sources say.

This puts the production in an awkward place; shooting was scheduled to start in mid-June. To keep on track, the studio is going to have to find a new helmer soon. However, reports have it that the studio is holding firm on a $30 million budget, but submitted script drafts would have required much more finding and that even at this late date, a final draft has not been approved. There has been no word from New Line on either Fukunaga’s replacement, or how this shake-up might affect the production.

The film is based on Stephen King’s sprawling 1986 novel about a group of preteens terrorized by a malevolent entity that prays on children, called (of course) “It”. The group narrowly defeats the monster, but find themselves facing it again as adults. The monster appears mainly in the form of a clown calling itself Pennywise. The book was previously adapted for a 1990 tv miniseries on ABC; Tim Curry starred as the titular monster.

‘You made it. And you’re f***ed’: Raging bull De Niro pulls no punches in brutally honest commencement speech for NYU arts grads

  • Robert De Niro spoke at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts’ commencement on Friday
  • He said that those graduating with nursing, dentistry and medicine degrees would all have jobs, but Tisch graduates followed their passion
  • Tisch graduates include aspiring writers, actors, directors and dancers
  • He told graduates that they have to keep working and that they will face a ‘lifetime of rejection’
  • De Niro, a native New Yorker, dropped out of high school to pursue acting

Two-time Academy Award winner Robert De Niro congratulated graduates as he spoke at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts commencement on Friday: ‘You made it. And, you’re ***ed.

De Niro spoke of how those graduating in nursing, dentistry, medicine and teaching would all likely have jobs.

But he told the audience that Tisch graduates, which include aspiring actors, dancers, directors, writers and more, have trusted passion rather than stability.

‘You discovered a talent, developed an ambition and recognized your passion,’ he said. ‘When you feel that you can’t fight it, you just go for it. When it comes to the arts, passion should always trump common sense.’

‘You aren’t just following dreams, you’re reaching for your destiny,’ De Niro, who quit high school to pursue a career in acting, added.

His words of encouragement were met repeatedly with loud applause.

‘Yeah you’re f*****,’ he said. ‘The good news is that that’s not a bad place to start. Now that you’ve made your choice, or rather succumbed to it, your path is clear. It’s not easy, but clear. You have to keep working; it’s that simple.’

He warned the arts graduates that they’re ‘opening a door to a lifetime of rejection’, but that’s ‘inevitable’.

Kickboxer 3?

No, futura figlia? No, ventura filmografia.

Torniamo a Kickboxer.

Movie Packaging Co is handling additional sales.

Cage is repped by CAA and Link Entertainment. Schrader is repped by Parseghian Planco, and Jeff Berg at Resolution. Edward Bunker and his estate are represented by Jeanne Field at Windfall Management.

“Come Peter Sellers. Britt Ekkland, in Casino Royale.

FRANCIS “POPE” SILVA (Robert De Niro) is a retiring mafia boss, in the process of handing over the reigns of his illegitimate casino business to his protégé, DERRICK “DOG” PRINCE. As Pope executes a couple of low life thieves who have stolen from his casino, he imparts a lesson: all men value self-preservation above all else and that loyalty is key. Following the grisly scene, Pope steps onto his riverboat casino to attend his lavish farewell party. Despite his ruthless criminal activity, in public he is charming and popular.

Longtime casino employee LUKE VAUGHN (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) is broke and desperate; he works backbreaking double shifts, and has even sold his car pawned off his old military medals. The reason: Vaughn’s daughter is very sick and he’s way behind on medical bills. If he doesn’t get cashsoon, she won’t receive the lifesaving treatment she needs. Vaughn asks Pope for help, but if there’s one thing Pope has learned it’s not to grant charity. When Vaughn presses for a better answer, Prince has him fired from the casino once and for all.

Using inside knowledge and after hours access, Vaughn and another employee named COX (Dave Bautista) plan an audacious heist – both understanding that if they are caught it means sure death. They will be hunted down, so it’s all or nothing.

The day of the robbery Vaughn learns that Cox has allowed an amateur named JULIAN DANTE to muscle his way into the job. On the riverboat, an employee recognizes Vaughn and trigger happy Cox shoots down the first guard. All hell breaks loose and the plan goes to awry. They grab the cash but are caught in a gunfight by Dog and his men. Dante takes a bullet. A foot chase takes them towards a road where BUS 657 happens to be passing by. Vaughn and his partners quickly board, taking the bus hostage as they race away from the scene.

DETECTIVE DEAN MARCONI takes charge of the case and negotiates a hostage release. Vaughn exchanges a passenger, PAULINE, for fuel and supplies. A female cop, KRIS, connects Vaughn to the casino and questions Pope about the hijacking. She learns about Vaughn’s situation and develops an odd trust in him. But Cox is a wildcard, a sociopath with no regard for human life. Pope orders his men to kill the hijackers and get hismoney back by any means, knowing that if discovered by the police- the dirty cash will lead back to the casino and his world will come crashing down. Desperate to keep that from happening, Pope reconnects with his estranged daughter, SYDNEY (Kate Bosworth), but is unable to convince her to sign papers that would give her controlling interest in the casino.

The story climaxes in the desert, a huge confrontation between Pope, Vaughn and Dog where the truth is finally revealed and Pope must make an incredible, life-changing choice.

Bus 657 is Dog Day Afternoon on Speed, with the twists and turns of such heist classics as Ocean’s Eleven and Inside Man.
